Smile

Riana Telegmier

Smile was a fantastic book about a young girl named Raina who was just a normal 6th grader, She went to girl scouts and was a nice talented young lady and then… One day came along, she went to school. And to girl Scouts , her mother wasn’t going to be able to pick her up that day from scouts , So she had to ride home with one of the scouts parents .

So when it was time for her to get out the car and enter her apartment, she ran! Her and two other friends. They were racing so fast, someone should have stopped them! Raina tried to pull another scouts shirt, but then, she tripped and fell! You would never guess what happed her two front teeth fell right out of her mouth, there was blood everywhere, and she had bled a lot.

Her two teeth were now lost on the ground, she was crying, her gums were hurting her so bad. The scouts ran in the house to get her mother, then her mother rushed her to her dentist, there were lucky he was still in his office at 7:00 at night!

so then they put her teeth back in , And put a cast around them to help them stay in place , But that trick that the doctor had ; Did dent work out to well , Or as he planned it would go . So the doctor had another plan, He gave her braces, They didn’t work, So he gave her a retainer which sort of helped, But didn’t get her teeth to stay in her mouth, So then he can up with the best idea ever; They mounted her two big teeth to the retainer, Which made her teeth look new again, She was back to her normal teenage life as a 6th Grader.

She was asked by everyone how was her mouth, what happened, was she okay? What does it feel like to have your teeth gone? And she even received some bad comments sometimes; she said her teenage life did not start off the way she had expected it to! But now she is well again, and living the teenage life that she thought she was going to live the first time around

I do recommend this book to people who do not like to read long paragraphs, this book is written a comic stance, and it was good. And if you need a quick AR book, then this would also be great for you! Great Book!

Love

My emotions

are Deeper then

the deepest of the sea

when i see you

My heart skips a beat

Maybe even 2 beats

i beqan to smile

when i see you

it’s like a feelinq

that i have never

had before

When im in your arms ,

i beqan to fall inlove

even more

the sweetest lips

the warmest touch

the most amazinq boy i’ve ever met .

i love you .

Sleepinq In The Forest .
I thought the earth
remembered me, she
she took me back so tenderly, arranging
her dark skirts, her pockets
full of lichens and seeds. I slept
as never before,  a stone
on the river bed, nothing
between me and the white fire of the stars
but my thoughts, and they floated
light as moths among the branches
of the perfect trees. All night
I heard the small kingdoms breathing
around me, the insects, and the birds
who do their work in the darkness. All night
I rose and fell, as if in water, grappling
with a luminous doom. By morning
I had vanished at least a dozen times
into something better
Mary Oliver
REFLECTION: After readinq this poem , i felt as if she was thinkinq of the world as ” Mother Earth ” And even thouqh she was scared of the animals in the forest .. it was still a qood place for her clear her mind . And have a qreat time . In the meaninq of ” Small Kinqdoms ” I think she means that there are like sertain animals that are toqether . Just like we have friends .. This poem was qreat and it was very well written . And i understanded it , Better then i thouqht i was qoinq too ..

The Journey .

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice–
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
“Mend my life!”each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do–
determined to save
the only life you could save.
Mary Oliver

REFLECTION: After readinq this poem , I diden’t know what it was about . But then after i read it aqain i knew what it was about . Mary Oliver was basically tryinq to say is : Don’t let people tell you that you cant do somethinq , When you can . There are bad influences all around you .. When she said ” Mend My Life ” She was sayinq another like term for help me .. i think that this poem was qreat , And really inspirinq . It made me think as if i can do anythinq that i set my mind up to doinq . Like for exsample : i want to be a Doctor , But my friends say i could never be .. Thats a qood exsample of my friends sayinq that i cannot do what i put my mind to doinq , !

Touched by an Angel

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

Maya Angelou

REFLECTION: Touched by An Anqel was a qreat poem . I liked it even thouqh I diddent really qet it . it was still a qood poem . I could understand the point of view that Maya was cominq from .I can see that she is a lovinq person , I thik that she is a wonderful poet , and she has done a qreat job with writinq all of her poems .

- Woman Work ;]

Woman Work

I’ve got the children to tend
The clothes to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed
I’ve got shirts to press
The tots to dress
The can to be cut
I gotta clean up this hut
Then see about the sick
And the cotton to pick.

Shine on me, sunshine
Rain on me, rain
Fall softly, dewdrops
And cool my brow again.

Storm, blow me from here
With your fiercest wind
Let me float across the sky
‘Til I can rest again.

Fall gently, snowflakes
Cover me with white
Cold icy kisses and
Let me rest tonight.

Sun, rain, curving sky
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone
Star shine, moon glow
You’re all that I can call my own.

Maya Angelou

REFLECTION : Woman work was a wonderful poem . I loved this poem , when I went home and shared it with my Grandmother she could relate to this poem . She said this is how life was for her . I think that Maya Angelou did a wonderful job when she wrote this poem . Out of this 8th grade year , And all the poem we have read .. this has got to be the best one of all .

Basket-Ball Player of the Week (:

Kobe Bryant is the Basketball player of the week , there is no stopping him on the court . He is on fire .. This shooting gaurd is nothing to play with . He plays for the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Bryant enjoyed a successful high school basketball career and made instant headlines when he decided to go directly into the NBA upon graduation. He was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets, then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant and then-teammate Shaquille O’Neal led the Lakers to three consecutive NBA championships from 2000 to 2002. After O’Neal’s departure following the 2003–04 season, Bryant became the cornerstone of the Lakers franchise. He led the NBA in scoring during the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons. In 2006, Bryant scored a career high 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, the second highest number of points scored in a single game in NBA history, second only to Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 point performance.
